Missed adding this poster to the website in March - but join us on Saturday 6th September, 10.30 - 12.00 at the Samuel Hall Pub for the September edition of this event!
Swishing Event at Sherwood Library
Saturday October 4 10.30am for 11am start-1pm
Start saving your clothes and toys for our autumn "swapping not shopping" event.
The group had a break from monthly get-togethers in August, but join us again on September 6 at 10.30am-12 noon in the Samuel Hall Pub, Mansfield Road, Sherwood. We will be talking about Swishing and planning our AGM.
Since the AGM in Autumn 2013 the co-ordinators group meetings have evolved into looser get-together, networking and sharing events, currently monthly at the Samuel Hall pub, Mansfield Road, Sherwood, on Saturday mornings - the next one Saturday 3rd May, 10.30am.
Sharing Sherwood now hosts monthly social eating events - cooked fresh by Sharing Sherwood volunteers from items discarded by supermarkets, with proceeds going to local food banks. Sharing Sherwood's Facebook page gives latest details, and information about food banks, ways to reduce food waste, and cooking tips. The next meal is next on Sunday, 11 May at 19:00 The Sherwood Cookery Workshop in Nottingham, United Kingdom
Owning up to a long gap here - neglected in favour of Facebook I'm afraid - so a few quick updates coming up now!
Sunday 8th December sees the official launch of Sharing Sherwood, a project that aims to use up food that would otherwise have been thrown away by Supermarkets.
Sharing Sherwood hopes to prepare delicious meals on the 2nd Sunday of every month for the local community to come and enjoy at The Sherwood Cookery Workshop on Mansfield Road.
There is no set menu and there is no set price, with any donations being given towards projects such as Nottingham’s food banks. The food to be used has been possible thanks to national charity FareShare, who collects and co-ordinates the food donated by supermarkets and shops. The event will start at 7pm, and people are encouraged to bring their own drinks.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how to reduce food waste and food bills in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, enjoying some delicious food.
Transition Sherwood's 2013 AGM is this year on Saturday 19th October, 10.30am - 12.45pm at Sherwood Methodist Church.
It would be great to see lots of people attending this year to discuss how we can Re-energise Sherwood.
We are hoping to get ideas about how we can promote Sherwood, starting with all that is positive and then looking at how can we develop more local connections by sharing ideas and resources.
Transition Sherwood's food garden was open today as part of Sherwood Community Centre's September Spectacular open day. We served herb teas with fresh herbs from the garden, planted saved seeds and gave away pots and chive plants, had an exhibition of gardening reference books from Nottingham City Libraries and our own collections as part of the book-themed day, hunted for mini-beasts, and had a story-telling session.
Feet up now!
Transition Sherwood is a group of local people coming together to help our communities become less dependent on fossil fuels, become more resilient, and reduce our impact on the environment. The group started in 2008, with an active group initiating a range of events and projects. This evolved into a smaller group concentrating on two community gardens from 2015.
Updates about local community and environmental events, and national and international climate change and environmental issues are currently shared mainly via our Facebook page.
Transition Sherwood is very pleased to be a member of the Nottingham Growing Network in 2016-17, with funding from the People's Postcode Lottery supporting sharing of skills and resources around a network of growing projects.
The website's title picture is part of a mural in Hood St, Sherwood, painted by local young people in 2008 - signatures below.
