It's International Permaculture Day on Sunday 5th May! Let's celebrate this and Sherwood with some seed sowing! Part of Sowing Sherwood, One of the Transition Sherwood groups. Everybody welcome!
![]() The council have invited Sherwood residents to comment by 5th September on proposals for a 20pmh scheme covering all of Sherwood except for Mansfield Rd, Hucknall Rd and Sherwood Rise/Nottingham Road. The current proposals are drawn up from responses to the questionnaire and consultations at public events earlier in the year. Local Councillor and Transport Spokesperson Jane Urquhart came to the Sherwood Bike Group in July to discuss the proposals. If you'd like to show support or suggest changes, contact Nottingham City Council road safety office on 0115 8765225 or email road.safety@nottinghamcity.gov.uk - and do it before Wednesday! ![]() Transition Sherwood will be one of many local groups with a stall at the Sherwood Festival on Saturday 16th June, 12 noon - 6pm in Woodthorpe Park. We'll be planting seeds and swapping seedlings - bring along a few to swap if you have some! The Sherwood Conference with local groups and councillors at Sherwood Community Centre last week featured a presentation by Eddie Curry from Parks and Open Spaces, and updates from local groups including the Transition Sherwood Community Food Garden. The garden was recently awarded Level 4 - Thriving - in the Nottingham in Bloom It's Your Neighbourhood awards. Congratulations, that's a big leap and a lot of hard work since the Level 2 - Improving - award in 2010. Congratulations also to the Young Potential Secret Garden on the other side of the community centre, another relatively new garden, who also got a Level 4 award. Transition Sherwood is a group of local people coming together to help our communities become less dependent on fossil fuels, become more resilient, and reduce our impact on the environment. The group started in 2008, with an active group initiating a range of events and projects. This evolved into a smaller group concentrating on two community gardens from 2015.
Updates about local community and environmental events, and national and international climate change and environmental issues are currently shared mainly via our Facebook page. Transition Sherwood is very pleased to be a member of the Nottingham Growing Network in 2016-17, with funding from the People's Postcode Lottery supporting sharing of skills and resources around a network of growing projects.
